2017 – We’re Hiring

Holcomb Farm is a non-profit mixed-vegetable production farm in West Granby CT.  We grow on 26 acres of town-owned property for a 450 member Summer CSA, 80 member Winter CSA, wholesale customers, our on-farm farm stand, and a food donation program called Fresh Access.  We use only chemical- and GMO-free methods and sign CT NOFA’s Farmer’s Pledge but we are not “certified” organic.   Holcomb Farm is a historic, beloved farm in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, a half hour from Hartford and a proud part of a vibrant agricultural community in the Town of Granby.

2016 Farm Crew

The Farm has the following job opportunities open for the 2017 season:

Full Time Crew Members for 2017 Season
We are looking for a select group of responsible, hard-working, and enthusiastic people to join our farm crew for the 2017 season.    Each member of our crew will play a critical role in the production, harvest and distribution of crops, and will be expected to take on individual responsibilities within the structure of the farm team. Previous experience in farming or similar work outdoors is preferred but not necessary to be considered for this position.  Individuals must have the ability to lift 50 lbs comfortably and regularly, and work outdoors regardless of the weather. Compensation includes $10.50/hr, option to a private room in the farm house for $225/month (utilities included), workers compensation, on-farm produce, and a discount on farm store products.  The work schedule will vary according to the time of year and weather, but the crew can expect to work 7am to 5pm Monday through Saturday at the height of the season, with shorter work days in the spring and fall. We also plan for periodic vacation days for all crew members to give a break from the demanding schedule. Most positions will run from the beginning of April 2017 until mid-November 2017.

Full Time Crew Member/Wholesale Manager

We are also looking for the right person to take over management of our wholesale accounts. Holcomb Farm currently sells to several local restaurants, caterers, co-ops and individuals but there is the potential for much more. We are looking for someone who can be a full time crew member but who can, over time and with training, take over the wholesaling duties from the Farm Manager.  This will include calling and emailing wholesale accounts each week, finding new accounts, running invoices, ensuring consistency and quality across all wholesale orders, and packing and delivering orders. Most of the week you will be part of the regular farm crew (see the description above), but there will be time dedicated each week to fulfilling your duties as Wholesale Manager. This position runs from March to November, with the potential to work through the winter. Pay is commensurate with experience.
