    Seeding in March…………..

    ……..Leads to this come Summer!

The first wave of seeding for 2017 is done and Scallions, Leeks, Parsley, Beets, Snapdragons, Fennel and more have begun their long journey into a CSA member’s hands.  Broccoli, Spinach, Peppers, Swiss Chard, Celery, Basil, Cabbage, Celeriac, Napa Cabbage, Eggplant, and fields of Flowers will be seeded in the next week and a half.

Holcomb Farm CSA will open its Barn and Fields for another bountiful 20 week season in mid-June and there is much to be excited about. Though after 12 years of farming I’ve taken to playing my cards close to the chest and don’t want to give away too much of what’s in store (also better to count chickens after they’ve hatched).  The past several years have seen us transition to a militant form of natural farming – I can’t use the word organic, because we are not certified organic – but our philosophy of not killing anything on our farm (whether with a conventional pesticide or a fungicide approved for organic use) has our fields as resilient and productive as they’ve been in decades.  The percentage of successful crops and – more importantly – the nutrient density of these crops has motivated us to double down on our efforts. This year we’re investing more than ever in equipment, crew members, and soil amendments to work towards fulfilling the promise of this land. If you haven’t already, please join us for the coming season.  Pick up your veggies at the Barn every week and walk the fields to cut flowers, pick cherry tomatoes, peas and herbs and know you are helping keep these fields farmed and fruitful and free*.
